What’s wrong with July 3?

Today is the day before my nation’s birthday. This year we will celebrate the great anniversary of the declaration of freedom on a Saturday, a weekend day. This creates an unusual situation of folks being off from work or school on a normal, good day that is not a holiday.  Why should you be off on the Friday when the holiday is on Saturday? It seems there is an entitlement of the holiday. Are you going to celebrate differently today or tomorrow because you were off today?

I don’t know, it just seems like a wasted day that could be applied better. Like a national personal education day where everyone has to go read for 2 hours today or go support a charity day or work on your life goals day. There could be a better use of the time that is just being given to people today because tomorrow is a holiday.

Personally, I will apply my time to working on the strategies of Quickparts, trying to find the looking glasses of the future and expanding my personal knowledge base so that I am using today in a fulfilling way.  I will use today in a way that I have been provided the luxury to do because 233 years ago, the brave leaders of a small restless land decided to risk their wealth, families and lives for their principles. July 4 is an amazing day in the history of the United States and one that we all must pay homage.

So, maybe, with this “free” day before the real holiday we will use it to prepare for the big day with greater respect, appreciation and celebration.

Happy Independence Day! Thank GOD it succeeded then and continues to succeed today due to our brave troops that fight to allow us to have our freedoms.
